Washi Tape Collar Stays

Washi Tape Collar Stays

Should the daddy-o in your life dress more like Don Draper than Stan Rizzo when he goes to work, may I offer this DIY Father's Day gift as an alternative to the tie.  Collar stays are those little arrow-like inserts that fit into a hidden pocket behind the collar of most dress shirts.  They make the curled collar look sharp, and when you are wearing a suit and tie, you should look sharp.  I made my fancy husband a packet of collar stays from using washi tape and opaque plastic. Birch Paper Vases

Birch Paper Vases

Since Mother's Day is fast approaching, I thought I'd switch things up and share a little DIY today. Mother's day is more than brunch and flowers, it's a time show your appreciation for all of the little things she's done for you. I made a set of vases for my mama from these beautiful birch print paper straws I found at Paper Source. My mom has always been an enthusiastic supporter of my work, even when it was just macaroni necklaces and finger paint. Because many of you are moms yourselves, I thought today's post should be a giveaway. All you have to do is leave a little comment to be entered to win your own pack of 144 birch paper straws.

Since I have more jelly beans than I know what to do with from last month's Easter eggs I thought I'd make little party favors for Cinco de Mayo. It seems like the perfect time to try my hand at the pinata fringe technique that I so admire from crafty places like Corner Blog, though I cheated and used doube-sided tape to secure my crepe paper.  This project cost me about $5, I rescued some cardboard tubes from the recycling bin, and I put an end to the candy stash...not bad for a hours work! See picture tutorial.

Wylie turns three in about a week and we are having his party this weekend.  This year we're taking a trip to the wildlife museum, then heading back to our house for the old standby of pizza and cake. I'm sprucing up the house with some animal themed decor.  I made him a special string art lion to go over the piano.  See how I did it with the picture tutorial below. I'm happy to report he's finally on the mend after two weeks of the ickies.  Happy Birthday little guy...
