In Season: After School Snack
/This kid is obsessed with specialty drinks like chocolate soy milk, coconut water, or any other kind of packaged $4 drink he can get his hands on. He most especially wants them when he's "starving to death" right after school. I usually fend him off with multiple rounds of crackers, popcorn, and watered down lemonade (he can't have dairy), not my favorite, but it keeps the whining to a minimum.
Then I made a little discovery.
I overbought on strawberries and I knew they weren't going to be eaten, so I popped them through the juicer and they made this amazing, seedless juicy puree. I cut it with some cold sweetened vanilla almond milk, which is a little thicker than the other types, and what do you know the kid went crazy for it. If you have one, you know how life changing a juicer can be. I use it as frequently as the Kitchen Aid mixer that it sits next to on the counter.
If you're in the market for one, I really recommend shelling out a few bucks for the Breville, it's pretty radical.
In addition to making the green stuff that I responsibly drink in the morning (breakfast of champions!), we also make our own apple juice, carrot juice and now we use it to juice berries for this yummy milk.
I'm new to juicing so if you have any recipe ideas, send them my way!
